Young Photographer Week: Emily Tebbetts

emily-tebbetts-banner“Photography has become my definition. It has infested every sense and emotion that I have. There is nothing that I love that I do not want to capture with a camera, whether it be physical, emotional, or conceptual … or something that doesn’t quite exist at all. Taking photos is such a rush for me– but its one that I never come down from. I want to be unique, and I want to make people feel when they look at my photos. My favorite characteristic of a photo is that little piece of soul that is completely indescribable but twists your organs and gives you a glimpse at some non-existent wisdom, if only for a fleeting second. I feel as though I have found a passion that I will stay faithful to for my whole life, something that will only complement every joy and sorrow that I go through. In a way, it makes the good times better and the bad times more beautiful. Photography is the air I breathe, the thoughts in my head, and the feeling on my fingertips. I will never, ever give that up.” - Emily Tebbetts

Young Photographer Week: Larissa Felsen

larissa-felsen-banner“For some time, I thought I’d settle for being a hobbyist. But then, everytime I thought about it, a dull ache would take over me. For me, photography means the cure for this pain of not settling for an ordinary life, it also means the outlet for images and scenes burning in my mind, asking to be released, expressed in some way. Some people write, others paint. I shoot.” - Larissa Felsen

Effective Uses of Vibrant Color

color-banner

One of my favorite tricks in Photoshop is to go straight to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and desaturate. I know I am not alone in this. However, you and I may be digging ourselves into a deep hole of desaturated boredom. Artists should take every opportunity to experiment with color. The following is a showcase to wow and inspire you to use color to its full potential. Enjoy.

The Line Between Art and Pornography

the-line-between-art-and-pornography-banner

A lot of people are scared to enjoy art that incorporates nudity. When is it pornography and when is it art? The truth is, the human body is a wonderful and beautiful thing. When captured in the right light it is most definitely art! If the artist or photographer is focusing on the beauty of the body, intimacy, or making a statement it is art. It is easy to determine if the purpose of the composition is just SEX. Art can be sexy and that doesn’t necessarily make it pornography. Need clarification? The following are gorgeous examples of nudity as art, not pornography.

Instances of Breathtaking Creativity 2

breathtaking-creativity-2-banner

Out there in the world are artists who see things. I mean, really see things. These people can transform everyday life into breathtaking art. In order to do this you must ignore boundaries in your mind so that you may see how one part of something can blend into something else. Once you see the vision you must then make the smooth transition between ideas. That’s the trick, isn’t it? Other instances of breathtaking creativity involve conveying a vivid feeling, idea, or statement through an image. These artists have done just that, making a stunning composition. I challenge you to feel nothing while looking at these works. Good luck. This is the second in a series of two compilations. Be sure to check out the first installment of Instances of Breathtaking Creativity as well.

Grunge Artwork Depicting Emotion – Ben Tour

ben-tour-banner

Ben Tour uses a sort of messy art style that goes right to the heart. Although his portraits often seem to fade into white space, they seem so raw and real. Notice how he effectively lets your imagination create the rest of the work. I am never overwhelmed by his art, except by emotion. All artists could learn a thing or two from Ben Tour.
