This 17 year-old photographer from Australia sent me her photography saying, “Right now all I want more than anything in the world is to get out of school and pursue my career as a professional photographer.” To her I say, YES. Do it, and the Nonsense Society will back you every step of the way. Her passion is excruciating, and I can’t wait to see what else she can come up with.

Stop Motion Animation by Marissa
The Nonsense Society sees new submissions all the time, but what is it exactly that makes the cut? What stands out? When it comes down to it, we are all about creativity. We crave new ideas and raw talent. This post features stop motion animation by long-time Society Member and close friend, Marissa Grossi. Marissa consistently demonstrates incredible talent and creativity in her art. We have chosen to recognize her here.
2009 Hall of Fame
2009 has been an amazing year for the Nonsense Society. Thanks to all who have supported it and watched it grow. With a redesign within touching distance, the Society is poised and ready to bring new artists, authors, musicians, and filmmakers into it’s ranks. We love your creativity. We want to help you grow. 2010 is set to be a spectacular year, but first let’s look back at the best of 2009. Enjoy.

Lumino-Kinetic Art
f5×5x5 is one of the newest installments by Brussels-based Laboratory for Architecture and Urbanism, LAb[au]. f5×5x5 consists of 375 aluminum frames, glowing and rotating as the environment around it changes. The sculpture moves according to electromagnetic, infra-red, kinetic, luminous, and spacial changes that are measured by uniquely programmed ‘lumino-kinetic’ devices. The exhibition resides in Saint-Denis Basilique, Paris.

“Photography, to me, is a gift and a privilege offered to us all as a means to capture moments in time forever. When I pick up a camera, a sort of rush comes over me… a NEED to capture something pure, something raw, something beautiful, and to share it with as many people as I can. It is a veritable high to be able to take a photograph and then have that memory become tangible. In a world that has experienced so much hardship, I think we are all seeking for beauty in some way, shape or form. I also think that, overwhelmed by our fast-paced society, we sometimes overlook the simple beauty that is all around us, the beauty that is LIFE. I want my photos to make you feel something real- joy, fear, awe, confusion, serenity, love, anger… and I hope that if you glance through my lens you will discover that beauty really is everywhere if you would only take the time to look and see.”

Elderly in Photography
After the recent popularity of Women in Photography I was approached with many complaints that the collection only showcased photographs of young, skinny, white women. This was distressing to me because I believe there is beauty in all people. Therefore I was inspired to search the internet and find more examples of extraordinary photographers and photographs. I would like to share some of the best images I found of elderly people and promote the photographers who took them. Please share any more photographers or photographs in the comments.

This series recognizes extraordinary members of the Nonsense Society community. It is always a pleasure to hear from readers, fans, and fellow artists. Young Photographer Week: Andy McMaster
“Photography means that I can be myself! It means that I can not only make sense of all those ideas in my head but also be involved with fashion. I can create those images I see when I close my eyes! I can be different. I suppose I was never your normal child… always reading the fashion magazines over other childhood books, never playing in the park, and rather playing with my camera. I was hooked from a very young age! Then about 18 months ago my father paid a model to model for me. That’s when everything felt right! My love of fashion and photography became one! It was then and there that I knew what I wanted to do! Hopefully, one day it will mean that I can shoot for our major fashion icons!”

Taking photos is such a rush for me– but its one that I never come down from. I want to be unique, and I want to make people feel when they look at my photos. My favorite characteristic of a photo is that little piece of soul that is completely indescribable but twists your organs and gives you a glimpse at some non-existent wisdom, if only for a fleeting second. “Photography for me is a way of stopping time and immortalizing everything I see around me, with a simple click of a shutter. I also see it as a way of preserving life, history, and culture. Born and raised in an “ideal” American suburb, I’ve never had much taste of the world around me. There are more than 6 billion people in this world, and I want to know how their lives are like. With photography, you can capture the beauty of life and keep it forever. There is only so much you can do with writing, the rest you have to see with your eyes.”
