Nonsense Thoughts pt. 3

I take a little pad of paper around with me, and sometimes I scribble things that come into my head. I’d like to share some of them here.

Mellanie Carney: Poet/Photographer
I love using words to capture my feelings, and I love using a camera to capture the beauty of life.
Meet Mellanie Carney, a 28 year-old poet/photographer from New Mexico, USA. Mellanie’s submission caught the attention of the Nonsense Society, because it combines two arts in one. We are all about this! Take a look at how words and images inspire Mellanie, and hopefully they will inspire you as well. Welcome, Mellanie.

Texas Hold’em by Cara Persico
The porch door jolts me from my movie, my breath catching in my chest. Dad’s just come home again. It’s 5:30 A.M., another sleepless night. I’ve tried everything: Benadryl, chamomile, weed. I for sure thought the weed would work. Maybe I need to try all three together. Dad is in the kitchen. The clank of ice followed by the slosh of liquid, his daily brandy cocktail is soothing his conscience. Roxy yelps a few times in her annoying, small dog voice, but he hushes her and feeds her snacks from the jar. Continue Reading
Ace: King of Space, Episode II – Dead As A Doornail!
The second installment of Nicholas Collins’ incredible internet epic: Ace! King of Space. Seriously, it’s out of this world (haha).

Top Hats and Knives: Review of Tuna Ferit

When I first looked at the pencil art featured at the Society by Tuna Ferit, I was blown away. Revisiting it again several days later with a more discerning eye however… no, I was still blown away. The first and third submissions especially are bordering on photo-realistic. Looking at this art actually sparked a lively debate between myself and my fiance, and to keep this review from simply being ham-fisted adoration of a particular artist (which he totally deserves), I will explain my feelings on the debate with you in an attempt to provide some form of reflection.
Ace: King of Space, Episode I – Ace Gordon is Dead!
Ace Gordon knocked on the door. It was an odd door, a little shorter than most, and in a bright lime green kind of color that just oozed eccentricity. The house that surrounded it was equally as odd, though not quite as lime green, as the paint had long since faded and not been reapplied. The paint on the door looked fresh however and immediately after knocking on it, the door opened, slowly and heavily as if it were on gears, which in fact it was. The room that Ace entered is hard to describe, Imagine the most gaudy room in the history of rooms. Now add some gaudiness, and then add a toy train, with a laser pointer where the smoke stack should be and that should give you an approximation of the oddity that unfolded before Ace’s eyes. From another door, further into the bowels of this odd little house, burst a man, and a coffee can. Ace, taken aback, uttered a quick hello. The man did not respond. The coffee can did. The Drugstore Cowboy by Patrick Nietupski
Everett lay with his eyes open, staring at the ceiling. Stephanie lay asleep, wrapped in his arm. Everett couldn’t explain why he had confided in Stephanie, he simply did. Maybe it was that she had such a pretty smile to go with her long, dark hair. Her eyes were so inviting. Everett had told himself a thousand times that he didn’t love her, but for some reason he always came back.

I will take these hands
and with them build
something glorious
Riddle Poem by Patrick Nietupski

You’ll spend hours and hours trying to solve.
You’ll falter and struggle, I’ll break your resolve.
And just when you think that maybe you have won,
I’ll laugh in your face, you’ve not even begun.
A Recurrence of the Gunner’s Dream by Patrick Nietupski

A merry day.
There’s no elite.
And everyone knows which mistakes not to repeat.
Where you can speak out loud, be honest with your peers
And no more
Guns are made by engineers.
