The Team

Chris Collins
Founder, Curator
collins-thumbHi there. I’m Chris. I love creative things. Some people call me a Renaissance Man. In 2009 I realized that I was tired of waiting for happiness, dropped out of music school, and started doing what I love: chasing after things that are exciting and inspiring. Join me?

Since then her style has evolved significantly and she joined Nonsense Society team as our Boston Editor. She knows good talent when she sees it. Drop her a line.

The Name

You might be wondering what’s up with the name “Nonsense Society.” Well, besides being a damn cool name, there is a reason.

Back in 1821 (or something) there was an Austrian dude named Franz Schubert who composed some pretty awesome music. When he wasn’t doing that, however, he was hanging out with all his artsy friends doing ridiculous things. They called themselves the “Nonsense Society.” It’s in a book somewhere, promise. Anyway, I am continuing in his tradition (with some slight changes). I hope he doesn’t mind.

The History

I started this whole project back in the beginning of 2009. I think I was all amped-up about something creative I was doing, and wished there was an easier way to share it with the world. I started noticing other people who wanted the same thing! Imagine that!? Since then I have been finding artists who make me feel something and asking them to join me. Could that be you?

The site started as a blog and (with the help of my friends over at Build Internet!) has evolved quite a bit since then. Before that, it was just an idea.

Circa 2008

About 6 months before Nonsense Society became a reality, I was running around pitching his idea to as many “important people” as I could find. I talked to many people with fancy degrees in art and music. Most of them told me that it was a silly idea, a stupid name, and would never work. I heard a lot of “what makes you think people will care?” and “how is this different?” I learned a lot from these comments (mostly that a Ph.D. doesn’t mean you are always right) and decided to go ahead with my dream anyway.

Circa 2009

Nonsense Society was born! Now that I had something tangible to work with, I decided to pretend to be more important than I was. The funny thing is, people actually believed me! Soon the Nonsense Society blog went from hundreds of hits to hundreds of thousands! Incredible artists from all over the world started sending their work as submissions to Nonsense Society. That’s when One Mighty Roar and I decided to take things to the next level (stay tuned).

Circa 2010

This is not the end. I have big plans for Nonsense Society, but you’ll have to wait and see what happens next. We’re going to change the world.
