The following is my top 7 list of odd, zany, emotional websites that will kick you in the gut and keep you coming back for more. These kinds of sites are consistently most inspiring to me. They have the raw emotion that I crave and feed off daily. Both the concept and content of all these sites are creative. I hope you agree.

PostSecret

Okay. PostSecret is the world famous phenomenon where people send in homemade postcards with a secret. Some are funny and some will make you cry. This site is pure brilliance. It’s a chilling glimpse into the outstanding human mind.

a softer world

This is an incredible combination of artsy photography and written word. It is presented in the form of a comic strip. It’s definitely the most unique comic I’ve seen. a beautiful revolution

I don’t think this one is as well known as the last 2, but it’s definitely a gold mine. It’s by a guy who used to be depressed and suicidal but decided to turn his emotions into something beautiful. I love this.

explodingdog

A nonsensical name (totally my style), but an inspiring artist. This guy draws pictures based on “titles” that people send in. I’ve been a fan for years. His mind is ridiculous and I can’t get enough…

Awful Drawings

This dude emailed me as I was writing this post (believe it or not) and I’m totally into it. He has some crazy and beautiful thoughts. Definitely inspiring.

FOUND Magazine

Heard about this one a couple years ago and loved the concept. People submit things they find off the street. So many of them are amazing and emotional. The anonymity makes it that much more spectacular.

Nonsense Thoughts

At the risk of looking like an ass-hole I am going to plug my own creation: Nonsense Thoughts. I draw/write stuff on a little notepad as they come in my head. It’s definitely how I feel most comfortable expressing myself. All of the above sites have inspired me to find my own unique medium, so thank you.

    I like the spontaneous stuff, as I know you do. I especially like Found because I think when you take a note out of context, it can really be beautiful. I love to look at the handwriting- just like I love handwritten poetry because I think so much comes across visually.

    I couldn’t agree more. Such a simple thing taken out of context becomes art. It’s up to our mind to create the person around the note. You want to know the “artist,” but it would diminish the art. That’s not always the case though…

    I really like your concepts, but they would be so much more poignant if documented more clearly. Your camera probably has a white balance or you can adjust layers in photoshop. Both will make the image will look much crisper so our viewer can focus on the message and not the camera fuzz. :) Keep up the good work.

    my dad didnt open any of the presents I gave him, I found them in his wardrobe after he died.
    …. He didnt think I was his son … he suspected my mother of cheating.
