Young Photographer Series: Tessa Abrahams (19)

“My fascination with photography derives from its unique ability to make any moment last for an eternity; there has yet to be another way to completely stop time from passing us by. Photography has impacted my life because of how much time I spend reflecting on my memories. I live for the days that I want to remember every detail of forever. Photography serves the world’s witness that all things contain beauty even if that means observing from a new perspective. A camera gives its owner the power to turn the ordinary into extraordinary. Photography lets me show reality to the world the way I want it to be seen. To me, there is no higher form of self-expression than an image.” - Tessa Abrahams

Great pictures. I usually think cat pictures are soooo boring, but this picture is great. Cat as art. I also loved the truck in snowbound NY. Only an LA beach girl would see beauty in a commercial vehicle and snow.

Tessa — These pictures are extraordinary! You capture reality and then bend and shape it into a higher, concentration of itself — or, as they say, into art! What an eye you have. I love the personal stamp you put on what you see. Keep up the wonderful work. One day, everyone with any taste will want an Abrahams on their wall.

You are clearly already a master of light. you have an eye for the ironic…the cat—so adorable and innocent, while the shadow of its ears are pointed and sort of spooky; the photo of {you?} at the fence with the shadow that creates a sort of mask around your eyes; the intensely beautiful natural yellowing light behind the figure on the grass, the blinding light of the snow photo makes you feel you are IN it in the foreground then your eyes sort of climb the snow “boulders’ into the background, their forms getting darker and darker.
I’m so impressed. The last I saw you, you were merely 14 and giving boxes of your childhood books away to my daughters. How incredible that you are now such a gift to the art world. Hope to see your work for decades to come!
