Young Photographer Week: Emily Tebbetts
“Photography has become my definition. It has infested every sense and emotion that I have. There is nothing that I love that I do not want to capture with a camera, whether it be physical, emotional, or conceptual … or something that doesn’t quite exist at all. Taking photos is such a rush for me– but its one that I never come down from. I want to be unique, and I want to make people feel when they look at my photos. My favorite characteristic of a photo is that little piece of soul that is completely indescribable but twists your organs and gives you a glimpse at some non-existent wisdom, if only for a fleeting second. I feel as though I have found a passion that I will stay faithful to for my whole life, something that will only complement every joy and sorrow that I go through. In a way, it makes the good times better and the bad times more beautiful. Photography is the air I breathe, the thoughts in my head, and the feeling on my fingertips. I will never, ever give that up.” - Emily Tebbetts
Young Photographer Week: Larissa Felsen
“For some time, I thought I’d settle for being a hobbyist. But then, everytime I thought about it, a dull ache would take over me. For me, photography means the cure for this pain of not settling for an ordinary life, it also means the outlet for images and scenes burning in my mind, asking to be released, expressed in some way. Some people write, others paint. I shoot.” - Larissa Felsen
Young Photographer Week: Julia Wang
“Photography for me is a way of stopping time and immortalizing everything I see around me, with a simple click of a shutter. I also see it as a way of preserving life, history, and culture. Born and raised in an “ideal” American suburb, I’ve never had much taste of the world around me. There are more than 6 billion people in this world, and I want to know how their lives are like. With photography, you can capture the beauty of life and keep it forever. There is only so much you can do with writing, the rest you have to see with your eyes.”

Beautiful and Unique Body Art
Sure paper, clay, canvas, and film are all great, but what about SKIN? It takes a lot of guts to use your own body as a tapestry. This is a collection of some particularly outstanding examples of body art. Feel free to share any other designs you admire in the comments.

Musical Art

In my opinion, music is the single most inspirational thing on the planet. Wouldn’t you agree? See how some of the most popular artists and photographers on the internet have been influenced by music and how they depict it to the world.

Texas Hold’em by Cara Persico
The porch door jolts me from my movie, my breath catching in my chest. Dad’s just come home again. It’s 5:30 A.M., another sleepless night. I’ve tried everything: Benadryl, chamomile, weed. I for sure thought the weed would work. Maybe I need to try all three together. Dad is in the kitchen. The clank of ice followed by the slosh of liquid, his daily brandy cocktail is soothing his conscience. Roxy yelps a few times in her annoying, small dog voice, but he hushes her and feeds her snacks from the jar. Continue Reading
Art Coming To Life: Illusion and 3-Dimensionality
It always amazes me to find artists who use their creativity and talent to bring their art to life. I have compiled a showcase of some of my favorite pieces that manage to come right off the paper AND the pavement.

The second installment of Nicholas Collins’ incredible internet epic: Ace! King of Space. Seriously, it’s out of this world (haha).

Apple Going Green With a New Ad Campaign

Just for fun: Here is an idea I had for Apple to go a little more green and sell some more iPhones (as if they need the help). I love Apple’s advertising and would never complain, but I thought this was cool-looking and wanted to share. Any feedback is appreciated, as always. I chose to use the old marketing slogan “Think Different.” It seemed appropriate here.
Top Hats and Knives: Review of Tuna Ferit

When I first looked at the pencil art featured at the Society by Tuna Ferit, I was blown away. Revisiting it again several days later with a more discerning eye however… no, I was still blown away. The first and third submissions especially are bordering on photo-realistic. Looking at this art actually sparked a lively debate between myself and my fiance, and to keep this review from simply being ham-fisted adoration of a particular artist (which he totally deserves), I will explain my feelings on the debate with you in an attempt to provide some form of reflection.
An Interview With David Firth

I recently emailed David Firth, creator of the popular Salad Fingers cartoon and Fat-Pie.com, with some questions. Here is the result.

Effective Uses of Vibrant Color
One of my favorite tricks in Photoshop is to go straight to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and desaturate. I know I am not alone in this. However, you and I may be digging ourselves into a deep hole of desaturated boredom. Artists should take every opportunity to experiment with color. The following is a showcase to wow and inspire you to use color to its full potential. Enjoy.
