Two Teenage Girls Leaving Their Mark On Photography
I recently received submissions from Sarah Rose Smiley and Megan Breukelman. They are both 15-years-old and their work just blew me away! It just goes to show you that talent knows no age. I can only imagine where these two will be in ten years after they have more education and experience. Below you will find a short interview and showcase of each of their works. I was most impressed by Megan and Sarah’s confidence from our conversations. They know who they are, what they are capable of, and what they want. That’s why they succeed! We can all learn something from these girls. If you know of any other young artists feel free to share in the comments.
Are You Being Censored? (Hint: Yes)
Talking about censorship in the media is nothing new. Media censorship has been around since shortly after media has been around. It seems that while everyone I talk to on a daily basis is against the idea of censorship and finds it rather pointless and stupid. There is a strong subsection of America that wants to be able to flip on the television and see a nice narrow view of perfectly acceptable society. I really don’t understand this viewpoint. Awe-Inspiring Artwork Featuring Water
Water has always been a symbol of life and beauty. Recently, I was feeling particularly thirsty and decided to scrounge the internet for artists using water as a medium. Striking and Lifelike Paintings by Paul Roberts
Yes, these are actually paintings. Paul Roberts has an amazing eye for detail. His brush strokes capture color and light in a way that sets his art apart from all others. This post showcases some of Paul’s best pieces. Which is your favorite?.
Textual Logos – Is Simple Better?
Is simple better? In this case I say yes. I am definitely guilty of making a super-intricate logo or piece of art. The more complex, the better, right? Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. This collection of logos contains some amazing work where the logo is just the name of the company. Some are very creative, but none are over the top. It takes some guts and vision for a graphic designer to realize that simple is better. I have to admit that when I browse through logos I find that the simple ones almost always catch my eye. The following are good-looking, not overwhelming, and still turn heads. What can you learn from them?
The Line Between Art and Pornography
A lot of people are scared to enjoy art that incorporates nudity. When is it pornography and when is it art? The truth is, the human body is a wonderful and beautiful thing. When captured in the right light it is most definitely art! If the artist or photographer is focusing on the beauty of the body, intimacy, or making a statement it is art. It is easy to determine if the purpose of the composition is just SEX. Art can be sexy and that doesn’t necessarily make it pornography. Need clarification? The following are gorgeous examples of nudity as art, not pornography.
The Man’s Got Soul – Ben Wytinck

The Nonsense Society welcomes Ben Wytinck to its ranks. He is a talented Canadian musician and recently turned singer-songwriter. Ben’s music is a balance of emotionally charged soul and down-home comedic storytelling with a twist of irony, teetering on the boundary between fact and fiction. Continue Reading

We have all been there. Left stranded with a broken heart. Music is often the greatest escape. This compilation showcases some of the best lyrics and recordings from people feeling the pain. Whether you are there now or have been there in the past, these songs will make your heart break and your soul ache.
Portrait Photography: Where Black And White Is Right
I have always been a fan of black and white photography, but there are instances where it makes or breaks a picture. The following collection of photos contains some amazing examples of black and white portrait photography. By taking out the color of a picture, it allows the viewer to concentrate on other aspects of the composition. Sometimes color can get in the way. These pictures would no doubt be less inspiring and beautiful if they had color. Enjoy this gorgeous showcase.
Dark, Frightening, and Enigmatic Works That Leave You Sorrowful
Here we have a dynamic collection of works by Italian artist, photographer, and poet Grassi Stefano. He mostly experiments with graphic art, photography, and graphic poetry. The darkness of his work is what makes him stand out from the crowd. After looking at his work I get that deep, almost depressed feeling that one only gets when they realize that they are indeed alive.
Instances of Breathtaking Creativity 2
Out there in the world are artists who see things. I mean, really see things. These people can transform everyday life into breathtaking art. In order to do this you must ignore boundaries in your mind so that you may see how one part of something can blend into something else. Once you see the vision you must then make the smooth transition between ideas. That’s the trick, isn’t it? Other instances of breathtaking creativity involve conveying a vivid feeling, idea, or statement through an image. These artists have done just that, making a stunning composition. I challenge you to feel nothing while looking at these works. Good luck. This is the second in a series of two compilations. Be sure to check out the first installment of Instances of Breathtaking Creativity as well.
Ace: King of Space, Episode I – Ace Gordon is Dead!
Ace Gordon knocked on the door. It was an odd door, a little shorter than most, and in a bright lime green kind of color that just oozed eccentricity. The house that surrounded it was equally as odd, though not quite as lime green, as the paint had long since faded and not been reapplied. The paint on the door looked fresh however and immediately after knocking on it, the door opened, slowly and heavily as if it were on gears, which in fact it was. The room that Ace entered is hard to describe, Imagine the most gaudy room in the history of rooms. Now add some gaudiness, and then add a toy train, with a laser pointer where the smoke stack should be and that should give you an approximation of the oddity that unfolded before Ace’s eyes. From another door, further into the bowels of this odd little house, burst a man, and a coffee can. Ace, taken aback, uttered a quick hello. The man did not respond. The coffee can did. Grunge Artwork Depicting Emotion – Ben Tour
Ben Tour uses a sort of messy art style that goes right to the heart. Although his portraits often seem to fade into white space, they seem so raw and real. Notice how he effectively lets your imagination create the rest of the work. I am never overwhelmed by his art, except by emotion. All artists could learn a thing or two from Ben Tour.
